K-Prep Classroom for Home Preschool
A New Way to do Kindergarten Readiness
Are you looking for a more structured way to get your preschooler ready for kindergarten at home?
MELODICminors presents K-Prep Classroom for Home Preschool, a Kindergarten Readiness course for caregivers who homeschool their preschoolers.
What is K-Prep Classroom for Home Preschool?
K-Prep Classroom is a combination classroom and home education course for 12 month to 5 year olds who are learning either full time or part time at home. Using structured play activity cycles and circle time in the classroom and continuation activities at home, you and your child will learn the necessary academic, social, emotional, and personal skills to succeed in a traditional kindergarten classroom or in your home classroom.*
How long is the course?
The K-Prep curriculum is planned over two 20-week sessions that cover math, science, art, and reading with a different theme each week.
How does it work?
Each class is 90 minutes full of songs and activities that teach practical concepts through play and discovery.
Classroom time has several goals.
At circle time, children will have the opportunity to sit together with some distant parent supervision. This time is to help with the transition to a teacher-led classroom experience.
Within circle time, we will work on time awareness (calendar, season, weather) as well as have music class to introduce the theme.
The majority of class time is devoted to activity cycle, where each activity is caregiver-led so that you can cater each activity to your child's age and ability.
One week before each lesson theme, you will also get a curriculum plan and materials for the week's theme that will help you prepare your supplemental activities to do at home. At-home activities require minimal materials and minimal set-up.
What age range is K-Prep for?
K-Prep is designed for children ages 12 months to 5 years. The classroom activities are easily adaptable to your child or children by interest and age. And we'll show you how to recycle and extend your favorite activities as your child grows and learns each concept.
K-Prep class is also a great way to connect with other parents and caregivers of preschoolers!
K-Prep isn't just about academics. It's also a great way to meet other home preschooling moms, dads, grandparents, and nannies!
*The K-Prep Classroom curriculum is based on the Durham County Public School System's assessment for kindergarten readiness.
